Cherokee County Undersheriff Jason Chennault said the explosion occurred around 7 p.m. about 200 yards east of TNT Grocery.
"At this point, it looks like a gas explosion, propane," said Chennault. "There was one male in the house, in his 40s, and he was alone. He's been taken to a Tulsa hospital."
Chennault said firefighters from Welling pulled the man out of the home after the explosion. He didn't know the possible injuries the man suffered, but said there appeared to be no fire at the scene, and that the man was apparently injured by debris.
"There's nothing left of the home," said Chennault. "It just destroyed it."
He said the explosion was felt at least a mile away from the home. Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers were on the scene to help shut the highway down as firefighters went to the scene.
Agents from the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, Drug Task Force, and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were also on the scene, and were planning to begin an investigation at sunrise Sunday morning, Chennault said.
