TAHLEQUAH — A Tahlequah Public Schools band director could lose his job Monday evening, just more than two weeks after he was arrested in Muskogee County.

Andrew Justin Frazier, 35, is described on the board’s special meeting agenda as a “career teacher” for TPS. Frazier was hired Aug. 8, 2008, as the Tahlequah Middle School band director, and was also acting as assistant band director for the Tahlequah High School Orange Express Marching Band.

TPS Superintendent Lisa Presley said Friday she cannot comment on the pending dismissal of Frazier, and called it a personnel matter.

“We are handling it appropriately,” said Presley.

Records show Frazier was arrested last month in Muskogee County for possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Formal charges have not been filed against Frazier in Muskogee County, according to court records.

TPS board members are set to gather for the special meeting Monday at 6:30 p.m. to consider Presley’s recommendation that Frazier be dismissed.

Board members will also consider setting a time, date, and location to allow Frazier a hearing before the board.
