TAHLEQUAH — Tahlequah police say a city inmate on track for release last week was caught trying to steal a jail shirt and jail pants.

Jeremy Laconsello, 20, of Hulbert, was then taken to the Cherokee County Detention Center on new charges of petit larceny and knowingly concealing stolen property.

Tahlequah Officer Brandon Vick was releasing prisoners Friday morning to see Municipal Judge Donn Baker.

When Laconsello left his cell, he walked toward the lobby area to wait for others to line up.

Dispatchers noticed Laconsello appeared to have stuffed something into his pants.

Vick said he checked and found that Laconsello, in the front of his pants, had hidden a pair of black-and-white jail pants and a black-and-white shirt.

Vick said Laconsello knew he was going to be released when he allegedly stole the items.
