Tahlequah police officers and agents with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation were on the scene of an apparent homicide early Sunday morning.
At about 12:30 a.m., a shooting was reported at a residence in the 200 block of Basin Street.
Tahlequah Police Department's SWAT team was activated and responded to the scene, according to Tahlequah Chief of Police Nate King. Members of the SWAT team worked with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Cherokee Nation Marshal Service, Cherokee County sheriff's deputies, and other Tahlequah officers to arrest a man at the residence in connection to the shooting.
"Upon clearing the residence, the body of an unknown deceased male was discovered," said King.
King said it appears the man's cause of death was a gunshot, but the state's medical examiner will officially determine the cause of death at a later date.
The OSBI is assisting TPD in the investigation by processing the crime scene, King said. Detective Elden Graves is heading up the investigation.
The name of the suspect has not been released.
