TAHLEQUAH — A Mayes County teenager was killed and a Hulbert teen was injured Monday evening in a crash northwest of Locust Grove.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says Kale Davidson, 17, Locust Grove, was a passenger in the 1996 Jeep and was transported to a Tulsa hospital, where he died. The driver, 17-year-old Keanu Kylan Ikaika Peck, of Hulbert, was taken by ambulance to a Mayes County medical center, where he was treated and later released to his parents.

Troopers said Peck was westbound on Mayes County Road 550 when he looked down at the center console and lost control of the Jeep, which left the road to the right and struck a tree.

Both Peck and Davidson were wearing seat belts. An airbag in the Jeep deployed during the crash. Troopers said Peck’s condition was apparently normal, and the OHP has listed the cause of the crash as inattention.
