Teen jailed after fight with officer

TAHLEQUAH — Tahlequah police arrested a 15-year-old boy Saturday after he allegedly fought with an officer, tried to grab the officer’s gun, then threatened to build and detonate a bomb.

Police Sgt. Robert Jones said he initially responded to a noise complaint in the 400 block of West Allen Road. When Jones was leaving the area, he spotted the teenager standing by the road with a “distant look” in his eye. Jones said the boy appeared to be intoxicated, and refused to give his full name because, according to the officer’s affidavit, “he didn’t want his mom in trouble.”

When Jones attempted to handcuff the teen, the boy swung at the officer with his fist. Jones said he took the teen to the ground and the boy tried to kick the officer in the head. The boy continued to resist, but Jones was able to maintain control until the teen was able to maneuver his body around and stand up. Jones again took the boy to the ground, and the teen then tried to grab Jones’ firearm, according to an affidavit.

Jones held the boy until other officers could arrive to assist in placing the boy in handcuffs.

The teen allegedly continued yelling obscenities at officers, and told Jones he would build a bomb, take it to Jones’ house, and blow him up.

Jones said the teen was likely under the influence of a drug.

Associate District Judge Mark Dobbins ordered the teen to be held at the Cherokee County Detention Center until he was sober enough to be placed in a juvenile detention facility.
