An 18-year-old Tahlequah woman was arrested Tuesday on multiple drug-related charges after she allegedly tried to hide items inside her underwear.
Matilda Birdtail was a passenger inside a vehicle that was stopped by Tahlequah officers as they were investigating an assault.
Birdtail was sitting in the back seat, behind the driver, and was the only woman in the vehicle, according to police.
Officers found a purse where Birdtail was sitting and asked whether it belonged to her. Birdtail denied the purse was hers, according to Sgt. Jason Girdner’s arrest affidavit.
Police found a set of scales and a light bulb with a crystal-like substance inside a sock that was in the purse. They also found a sunglasses case containing several empty baggies, cut straws, and a used syringe.
When Birdtail was booked into the Cherokee County Detention Center, jailers found a bag of a crystal-like substance and a glass pipe that Birdtail concealed in her shorts and underwear.
Birdtail was booked into jail for possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of paraphernalia, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a jail facility.
Court records show Birdtail was being held on a $6,000 bond Wednesday.
