TAHLEQUAH — The Tahlequah Public Works Authority on Oct. 24 hired a new general manager, who assumed his duties Monday.

Mike Doublehead comes to TPWA from the Pryor Utilities Office, where he was performing assistant general manager duties. He also brings extended public utility experience from time spent in Stilwell, where he served as chairman of the utilities board for two years.

“I had worked at Stilwell Utilities as the general manager for almost 10 years, and I had served on their board for about six years prior to becoming the general manager. So I’ve got about 16 years in public power and public service,” said Doublehead.

He filled the general manager position that was recently vacated due to the departure of two-year TPWA GM Mark Chesney, who accepted a job as chief executive officer/general manager with Kansas Power Pool in Wichita.

Doublehead said he considers the Tahlequah electric and water service provider  a progressive agency, and added he looks to continue development of programs and services established during Chesney’s tenure.

“TPWA has always been a very forward-thinking entity, and I think that with the current board we have in place, we will continue to do that,” he said. “I’m quite pleased with the staff we have, their years of experience and their commitment to taking care of our customers. That will be my goal as general manager: to continue the direction TPWA has always had, and that it continues moving forward.”
