HULBERT — Thursday’s regular Hulbert Board of Trustees meeting involved discussion and consideration of details linked to the improvement of the city’s water treatment plant. Agenda items connected to the 14-Mile Creek project and Highway 51 bridge project were tabled, as city engineer Ralph Handlin was unavailableto discuss the issue.

Ardmore grant writer Millie Vance addressed the board to provide background on her services, and discuss the city’s current status about a potential grant application to fund the water plant improvements. The city has been experiencing problems with a water-intake system that was installed two years ago. The proposed grant amount discussed is $294,000.

Vance informed the board the open Community Development Block Grant, which provided the water-intake system, the city still has open needs to be closed, or completed, by the end of 2013 before starting the application process, as points will be lost in building a successful grant application. The city also needs to determine details like the project plan, permit dates, and Department of Environmental Quality requirements to improve its chances of receiving a grant, she said.
