Tahlequah police arrested a Fort Gibson man late Friday night after he allegedly shoplifted from Walmart and ran.
Nathan L. Coffman, 28, was booked into jail by Tahlequah Reserve Officer Austin Yates for possession of a controlled dangerous substance and larceny of merchandise from a retailer.
Yates said Walmart security was involved in a foot pursuit with Coffman, who was later found near the United Keetoowah Band casino and claimed he had been out for a jog. Coffman was later identified by Walmart employees as the shoplifter they chased, and was arrested by police.
Coffman allegedly had a small bottle of seven pills in one of his pockets, and told police the pills were oxycodone and had been prescribed to him. He was unable to produce a prescription or prescription bottle, Yates said.
