Two men arrested last month on allegations of kidnapping and robbery have been formally charged in Cherokee County District Court.
Bobby Gene Bechtol, 42, and Harley W. Scott, 22, each face two counts of kidnapping and two counts of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon.
On April 9, a girl stopped Tahlequah Lt. Steve Arnall and said her sister was being held against her will. Arnall said in an affidavit that he arrived at the residence, where the second female was in a back bedroom with Bechtol and his son, Scott.
That victim told Arnall she owed the two men $20, and Bechtol was demanding the money. She said Bechtol had a knife, and forced her to take off her clothes to prove she didn’t have the money.
Scott then allegedly went outside the home, where the other girl was, and asked her to go inside.
When she entered the bedroom, she was also allegedly forced to take off her clothes and prove she didn’t have money.
Scott and the girl who flagged down Arnall went outside to check her vehicle for money, according to Arnall’s affidavit, and the girl was able to get away.
Bond was set at $50,000 for Bechtol and $40,000 for Scott, court records show. Both pleaded not guilty to the charges during court appearances Tuesday, and are set for a felony sounding docket June 11 at 9 a.m.
