Despite cancellations, other December concerts planned

TAHLEQUAH — With the weather turning rough, most of the local music concerts planned for the weekend of Dec. 6-7 are cancelled, but plenty of other shows are slated for the month.

The Iguana Cafée , 500-A N. Muskogee Ave., hosts singer, songwriter and soloist Gunner Scrapper for a show from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13.

On Wednesdays until Christmas, Mike Allen will play holiday tunes during lunch. Allen performs on harp, fiddle and bagpipes from noon until 1 to 1:30 p.m.

The Branch will host a series of evening shows in December. N8 Jones plays on the 11th, Desi and Cody, a folk rock-bluegrass duo from Tulsa, performs on the 13th and Gatling and Hoffpauir, an acoustic duo that plays a central Texas blues-folk-rock blend, take the stage the 14th.

Oklahoma Blues Hall-of-Famer Scott Ellison performs Dec. 18, blues guitarist Harley Hamm plays Dec. 20 and The Vintage Wildflowers, which play a blend of folk, Celtic and bluegrass, visit on Dec. 21.

Thomas Trapp and Friends play at The Branch on Dec. 27, and Dave Kay performs Dec. 28. The Branch hosts a New Year’s Eve party Dec. 31.

Brewdog’s, west of Tahlequah on State Highway 51, hosts a concert Dec. 13 by RedWitch Johnny, which performs classic-style rock. Red Eye Gravy performs on Dec. 14, and Garrett Heck gives a performance Dec. 28.

On Dec. 31, Brewdog’s hosts a New Year’s Eve show with RedWitch Johnny and Whiskey Gene and the Bootleggers.

Friday nights are karaoke nights at the Elks Lodge, 18843 E. Murrell Road, with dinner served from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Country-western concerts are on Saturdays, starting around 9 p.m. with a $6 admission. Doors open at 7 p.m. There will be an additional karaoke night on Dec. 28.

One December exception to Friday karaoke is the 13th, when the lodge hosts the red-dirt country band Pumpkin Hollow Boys for a special performance, and admission is reduced to $2.

Crossroads performs on Dec. 14, and Coldheart gives a concert Dec. 21.

On Dec. 31, the Elks Lodge hosts a New Year’s Eve party with music by the Pumpkin Hollow Boys. Admission is $15. Couples are admitted for $25. Doors open at 7 and the celebration runs past midnight.

“The price includes breakfast, champagne, party favors and lots of fun stuff to celebrate the new year,” said Connie Parnell, coordinator of events for the lodge.

The Hole in the Wall Band with Carl Farinelli gives weekly performances on Fridays at 7 p.m. at the Tahlequah Senior Citizens Center, 230 E. First St.

At the Dream Theatre, 312 N. Muskogee Ave., an all-ages country open mic night is Dec. 19 from 7-9 p.m. Those wishing to enter can call (918) 457-8312.
