Tahlequah Public Schools Board of Education members Monday night set a hearing for next month to consider the dismissal of a district band director.
Andrew Justin Frazier, 35, was arrested last month in Muskogee County for possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of paraphernalia, according to booking information.
Superintendent Lisa Presley has recommended Frazier’s dismissal, and board members looked over her suggestion for a few minutes Monday evening during a special meeting. After reviewing the documents, board members Luke Foster, Brian Berry and President Shannon Pinson called for a hearing on March 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the Board of Education on Water Avenue. Members Donna Tinnin and David Morrison were absent.
Frazier and his family attended Monday evening’s brief special meeting, and a handful of students and parents also attended in support of Frazier. After the three board members set the hearing, the meeting adjourned.
Frazier was hired Aug. 8, 2008, as the Tahlequah Middle School band director, and has also been acting as assistant band director for the Tahlequah High School Orange Express Marching Band.
Formal charges have not been filed against Frazier in Muskogee County, according to court records.
