For mom, on her day

TAHLEQUAH — Mother’s Day is a week away, and area residents are looking for ways to let their matriarchs know how much they care.

Despite chilly temperatures this week, spring is in full bloom and a bouquet or arrangement of flowers may be just what Mom needs.

According to Gail Morgan, co-owner of Morris-Cragar Flowers, several people have placed orders already.

“We recommend people place them as early as possible,” said Morgan. “We’ve started taking a few already, and we actually got one order before Valentine’s Day.”

Morris-Cragar is a Teleflora outlet, and can get bouquets delivered around the corner or across the country.

“Teleflora bouquets are always popular,” said Morgan. “Also, flower prices will remain the same between now and Mother’s Day.”

Some of the more popular blooms this year include lilies, tulips and roses.

“We’ll have White Mountain and Stargazer lilies, and all the colors of tulips,” said Morgan. “We can also get roses in any color you choose.”

Morris-Cragar is generally open until noon on Saturdays, and Mother’s Day flowers will be delivered Saturday, May 11.

“Normally, we close at noon on Saturday, but we will deliver whatever we’ve got ordered that day,” said Morgan.

Jewelry is also appreciated by many mothers, and Meigs hosts its annual anniversary sale to coincide with the special day.

Chelsea Buttress, sales associate, said now is the perfect time to shop for Mom.

“Our anniversary sale is in full swing,” said Buttress. “It runs through Saturday, May 11, and most jewelry is marked 20 to 50 percent off. We have a lot of items this year tagged for discount.”

Meigs carries the Pandora line of charm bead bracelets, and while Pandora doesn’t participate in sale pricing, it is offering a special package for Mother’s Day.

“You can get the bracelet, two clips, a Mom bead and a bead of your choosing, and it all comes in a leather jewelry box for a very reasonable price,” said Buttress.

Silver continues to gain popularity, and Meigs has a new line offered in its anniversary sale.

“We have a new silver line, Gabriel, New York, that’s a boutique line,” said Buttress. “It has some beautiful pieces and is included in the 20 percent off category of the sale.”

Those with tech savvy moms, may want to skip the order on the flower bouquet and treat her right this Mother’s Day with the latest guar.
