Prosecutors have charged a Hulbert couple who allegedly concealed several pieces of stolen furniture last month.
Matthew Shane Smith, 34, and Miranda Lynn Smith, 32, were investigated by Hulbert police in late February when Sonja Glory reported furniture missing from a building she had rented on Main Street in Hulbert.
According to a report filed by Hulbert Officer Tom Pryor, police received information that a large amount of furniture was being stored at a the home of a family member of Matt Smith, north of Hulbert.
Glory’s husband, Dale Glory, went to the home and was told by the family member that he had received some furniture from Matt Smith but didn’t know it was stolen.
Police were told most of the furniture was stored inside a shed that was in a wooded area behind the Smiths’ home.
Officers went to the home and spoke with the Smiths, and both allegedly admitted they had the furniture and had taken it from the building.
Police worked with the Glorys to recover four truckloads of furniture from the shed, as well as inside and outside the Smiths’ home, according to Pryor’s report.
Court records show Miranda Smith has previous charges including obstructing an officer, resisting an officer, assault and battery on a police officer, malicious injury to property, first-degree arson, possession of contraband, knowingly concealing stolen property, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and public intoxication, among other lesser charges.
Matthew Smith has previous charges of obstructing an officer, transporting a loaded firearm, and eluding a police officer, among other lesser charges.
Warrants have been issued for the arrest of both Smiths, according to court documents.
