CCSO adds new telephone system

TAHLEQUAH — Employees at the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office are asking for a little patience as a new phone system is introduced to the department.

Beginning last Friday, a voicemail system was introduced to the sheriff’s long-standing main number, (918) 456-2583.

“It’s going to take some time to get used to it, but the new phone system is being done to make the office more efficient,” said Undersheriff Jason Chennault.

Employees in the office now have the ability to directly transfer a call to the 911 center, to dispatchers, or to the Cherokee County Detention Center.

Callers who don’t want to hear the directory options can immediately dial “0” for one of the sheriff’s secretaries; otherwise, options will be presented that allow callers to directly contact administrators and investigators.

Callers who want to speak with a deputy should contact a sheriff’s office secretary, Chennault said.

Emergencies should still reported directly to 911.
