HULBERT – Gas customers in Hulbert will soon see an increase in their gas rates as the recommendation made in last month’s regular meeting was unanimously ap- proved on Thursday.
The need for the increase was a result of a loss in revenue dating back to a 2010 rate decrease, which resulted in the city’s debt service ratio falling below the 1.25 debt covenant held by Wells Nelson & Associates LLC.
The current base gas price will remain $20, while the approved rate increase involves a charge of $13 for each of the first two metric cubic feet used, while a charge of $15.50 will be incurred for each additional MCF used.
A special meeting will be held Monday, March 25, at 10 a.m., at the Town Hall Building, 111 E. Main, to discuss and adopt a resolution to enact the rate change. The effective date will be announced later.
In other activity, Hulbert Police Chief Jim Morgan informed board members during his monthly report that Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics Director R. Darrell Weaver will on hand at the police station Tuesday, March 19, at 11 a.m., to install the Drug Take-Back Box, which is a secured storage container in which people may dispose of any and all unwanted, unused prescription drugs and/or medications.
The Drug Take-Back Box will be located inside the police station and will have 24-hour monitoring.
The drug take-back initiative is aimed to keep old, unwanted medications from ending up on the streets or in schools. Oklahoma is reported by the OBN to lead the nation in prescription painkiller abuse while the state is ninth in the nation in painkiller deaths, many of which are the result of drugs found in unsecured private-residential settings.
The next regular Hulbert Public Works Authority/Town Board of Trustees meeting will be held Thursday, April 11 at 6 and 6:30 p.m., respectively, at the Town Hall Building, 111 E. Main.
