Two killed in accident near Stilwell

Staff Writer

STILWELL — Two people were killed Tuesday afternoon on State Highway 51 nearly three miles west of Stilwell in Adair County.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, 22-year-old Timothy Asbill and 20-year-old Tommy Ridge were both killed when Asbill’s 1984 Mazda truck collided head-on with Ridge’s 1997 Chevrolet Camaro.

Asbill and Ridge were both pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

A juvenile passenger in Ridge’s vehicle was transported by EagleMed to Washington Regional Hospital in Fayetteville with head and arm injuries. The child was treated and released, and the OHP has not released his or her name.

Troopers said Asbill was driving west on S.H. 51 at about 4 p.m. when he tried to turn left, in front of Ridge, who was driving east. Their vehicles collided head-on.

Two other vehicles were damaged from debris caused by the crash, but the drivers of those vehicles were not injured.

Troopers listed the cause of the collision as an improper turn.

Asbill and Ridge were both pinned inside their vehicles and were freed by Stilwell Fire Department. Troopers said Asbill was not wearing a seat belt, and Ridge was wearing one.
