Gas prices may be high, but at least customers at Love’s Subs, 111 E. Downing, may be able to offset that cost with the low cost of a fresh sandwich.
Love’s doesn’t just have the prepackaged sandwiches that most gas stations have, it has a sandwich assembly line for customers that want a sandwich they can see being made.
When I went to Love’s, I ordered a veggie sandwich which included lettuce, tomatoes, bell peppers, pickles and jalapenos, along with mustard on country-sliced bread. With chips and a 32-ounce drink, my cost was 4.76. However, it can get even cheaper than that. A veggie sandwich by itself costs 2.50, and a sandwich with a 22-ounce drink and a package of Tom’s chips will range a little more than $4.
Love’s offers daily meal deals. On Monday, it’s a chicken strip sandwich. With Tom’s chips and a 22-ounce drink, it’s $4.29. On Tuesday, customers can pick up two hot link sandwiches for $3. Wednesday is Love’s Italian Sub day, which is the same price as the Monday deal.
Thursday is a tuna or chicken sandwich for $1.89. Friday is the “Bring your Buddy” deal, where customers can buy two 7-inch Love’s subs and get a third for $1 more.
Saturday is “The Great Your Choice Deal,” where customers can choose two 7-inch ham, turkey or roast beef sandwiches, two bags of Tom’s chips and two 22 ounce drinks for $6.99
Sunday is The Love’s “Family Deal,” where customers can buy four 7-inch sandwiches and get the fifth one free.
Love’s offers three kinds of breads, white, wheat and country sliced. The country sliced is not a sub. One of the more popular sandwiches at Love’s is the Italian, which includes bologna, salami and pepperoni and a choice of vegetables.
Love’s Subs is not meant to be a place to sit down to enjoy a meal. While there are two booths in the store, most people tend to carry out their sandwiches while they are on the run, usually while they are filling up their cars at the gas pump.
The service is fast. At most, you only have to wait a few minutes for one of the staff to help you with your sandwich order.
