Lunch with the Press: Simple Simon's Pizza

There’s always something good waiting on the menu at the local Simple Simon’s Pizza.
I stopped in during the noon hour last week and ordered up an original calizone, stuffed with pepperoni, sausage, cheese and a special Alpine sauce, for $8.99. Now, spending $10 on lunch for one isn’t unusual for good food – but this calizone fed at least four people in the very hungry newsroom.
The local Simple Simon’s Pizza is owned by Harold and Terry Terry. After down-sizing from their last location, the new one – 1294 E. Downing – offers just pick-up and delivery ordering. A 12-minute wait during lunch hour was all it took for the piping-hot calizone.
You can also order up a hot sandwich in four different varieties: club, ham and cheese, turkey, BLT or submarine with a pickle and chips for $4.99. There are also a few specialty sandwiches, including a chicken, bacon and ranch gyro with chips and a pickle for $6.99; or the Italian chicken with chips and a pickle for $5.49.
A number of “starter” items will also fulfill that afternoon craving, including garlic stix with cheese, Alpine stix, jalapeno stix or cinnamon stix, each for $4.99. If you’d rather, try some hot or barbecue wings, or a nice stromboli.
Now, of course, being a pizza eatery, there’s a large list of regular or specialty item pizzas to choose from. Small, one-topping pizzas start at $6.99, and Simple Simon’s offers three crusts: thin, thick ‘n’ chewy, or deep pan.
But if you’re looking to try something unique, Simple Simon’s recently introduced the Pizzadilla – similar to the well-known quesadilla. There are three choices, including cheese, beef and pepperoni, for $5.99 each. We could try to explain the idea to you, but it may be much easier for you to stop in and check it out. While you wait, the local Simple Simon’s offers the newest edition of NSU’s newspaper, The Northeastern, for your reading pleasure.
There’s also a Web site to check out the menu: www.sim plesimonspizza.com.
