Lunch with the Press: Keys Pizza By TRAVIS METCALF Press special writer TAHLEQUAH DAILY PRESS — There are people who want to go to a pizza place but don’t necessarily want to buy a pizz, maybe they just want a sandwich or just a sweet treat.
Keys Pizza on Highway 82 in Keys has what many appetites are looking for from the grand slam pizza which is topped with every topping the restaurant has to sub sandwiches and even sweet treats for just a dollar. Lunch is a great time to eat there because that is the time they sell pizza by the slice. The menu has several different pizzas including any one topping, supreme, all meat, vegetarian, grand slam and chicken supreme. Pizza’s range from $6.99 for a small and $15.99 for a large grand slam. Keys Pizza manager Gerri McKnight said the grand slam is the best selling pizza and includes pepperoni, sausage, hamburger, canadian bacon, italian sausage, bacon, onions, mushrooms, green peppers and black olives. When I went there last week, I really didn’t feel like eating a pizza that day. They have great sub sandwiches including an Italian sub, Chicken Italian, Canadian and Chicken Ranch. They will even adapt sandwiches if the sandwich you want isn’t on the menu. The vegetarian sub sandwich isn’t on the menu, but they worked with me in getting what I wanted. Sub sandwiches are $4.49 and includes chips. They also have plenty of tasty and unique calzones. The different calzones include pepperoni and sausage, hot ham and cheese, bacon and cheddar, jalapeno bacon cheeseburger, vegetarian and luau which includes luau chicken, ham, pineapple and mozzarella. They also have fruit calzones which includes apple or peach with cinnamon and sugar. Each calzone ranges from $6.99 for a small or 8.99 for a large. They also have wings, five for $3.49 or 10 for $5.49. Keys Pizza is a quiet, relaxed, small place where you can sit and read a magazine while you wait for your pizza or even watch some TV. Keys PIzza is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
