Local and state investigators continue to work on a double homicide case that happened in the Iron Post community five months ago.
Cherokee County Undersheriff Jason Chennault, one of the local investigators assigned to the homicide of Jack and Elaine Denney, said the investigation is still open, despite rumors to the contrary.
The couple were found fatally shot in their home on Christmas Day when a daughter discovered the bodies when she went there to exchange Christmas gifts.
Chennault said he and Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation Special Agent Vicky Lyons have received several calls each from people believing the case has been solved.
He said some callers have asked about collecting the reward money being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible for the double homicide.
“I don’t know where or how it got started, but the case hasn’t been solved,” Chennault said. “We are continuing to work on leads as we get them. We’re working every day on it.”
The OSBI has been offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest of whoever is responsible.
A group of Locust Grove residents joined together in early March and raised an additional $5,000 in reward money.
OSBI Public Information Director Jessica Brown has said investigators working the case hope the reward money will convince someone to provide them with the information they need to solve the case.
Anyone with information on the Denney homicides should contact the sheriff’s office at 456-2583 or the OSBI at (800) 522-8017 or online at www.osbi.state.ok.us.
