Published July 03, 2008 09:50 am - Man facing abuse charges Press staff reports TAHLEQUAH DAILY PRESS — A Cherokee County man faces domestic abuse charges after allegedly assaulting his aunt and a cousin.
Matthew Eric McLemore, 19, was allegedly yelling at his grandmother when Cecilia Barnett, 39, told him not to talk to her mother that way. He allegedly shoved Barnett down and told her to stay out of his face. Reports state McLemore then allegedly choked Barnett and put her in an arm bar type hold and pushed her fingers backward. Barnett told sheriff’s investigators she heard a loud pop and then her arm began to throb. A probable cause affidavit by Investigator Nate King states a bone in Barnett’s left hand was broken. Barnett’s 14-year-old son attempted to intervene and was allegedly hit several times in the face by McLemore with an open hand Authorities saw no visible injuries on the boy. Barnett was treated for her injuries at Hastings Indian Medical Center.
