Published August 29, 2008 12:17 pm - Recent arrest on scam was not Crow's first brush with the law By BOB GIBBINS TAHLEQUAH DAILY PRESS — The arrest of a Tahlequah woman this week for embezzling more than $200,000 from a home health care office is not her first brush with the law.
Formal charges are expected to be filed in district court against Ronda Taulbee Crow, 48, who stands accused of taking the money from Cornerstone Home Health Care over a 3-1/2-year period. She was arrested Tuesday at the sheriff’s office by Undersheriff Jason Chennault after he attempted to speak to her about the alleged embezzlement. Crow told Chennault she was doing what she was “told to do” before saying she wanted an attorney. Cherokee County court records show Taulbee was charged in June 1994 with taking $35,000 from Ron Jamison while working at Tahlequah Mill and Elevator, a case investigated by former District Attorney Investigator Jim Bone. The money was allegedly taken between Oct. 6, 1992, and Dec. 23, 1993. Taulbee pleaded guilty Sept. 28, 1994, and was given consecutive suspended five-year sentences. She admitted taking cash from daily deposits. The district attorney’s office filed applications to revoke the suspended sentence on at least three occasions, each time alleging Taulbee was behind on court-ordered restitution payments. In February 2000, an application to revoke her suspended sentence claimed she was $1,400 behind. She was to pay $700 that day and the other $700 by May 2000. Records show a second application was filed Sept. 4, 2001, alleging Taulbee owed a balance of $6,400 and had not paid anything since May 30, 2001. She again caught up on her payments and avoided revocation of her suspended sentence. The third application to revoke was filed in December 2003 and was not dismissed until May 2007, when Assistant District Attorney David Pierce filed a motion to dismiss the application, stating the restitution was paid in full.
