Published October 06, 2008 10:29 am - Improper computer e-mails may have involved juveniles By BOB GIBBINS Staff Writer TAHLEQUAH DAILY PRESS — Cherokee County sheriff’s investigators have seized computer equipment as they look into alleged improper electronic transmissions involving juveniles.
Sheriff’s Investigator Bob Sanders said no arrests have been made in the case, but the investigation is continuing. A Maxtor external computer hard drive and Hewlett Packard media center tower were confiscated after Associate District Judge Mark Dobbins signed a search warrant for the property. Sanders’ affidavit states the sheriff’s office received a report Sept. 25 from a man stating his 15-year-old stepdaughter had been receiving e-mails from a 47-year-old suspect. The stepfather provided original copies of some of the e-mail messages, which did demonstrate inappropriate conversations transmitted by the suspect. Sanders’ affidavit also states he watched a video on the suspect’s My Space page showing juvenile females. The suspect filmed the video while talking to the girls. Sanders interviewed the suspect, who denied any inappropriate behavior with the victim or any underage girls. His My Space page was altered after being viewed by law enforcement, the affidavit states, but the suspect denied making changes to the program. Authorities heard the suspect call someone from the courthouse hallway and tell them to remove the external hard drive from his computer. He initially denied, but then admitted the context of the call. Sanders and Investigator Becky Thompson are investigating the case.
