Northeastern State has called an emergency press conference on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. to address the current state of the football team.

A source told the Tahlequah Daily Press that the press conference is to confirm that Kenny Evans is no longer the head football coach.

Evans then confirmed to the Daily Press that he is no longer the head coach.

"It caught me completely off-guard," said Evans, who added that he had not resigned as of Saturday evening.

Evans added, "I'd like to find out more information."

Evans wrapped up his sixth season as NSU's head coach on Saturday with a 45-38 victory over Central Oklahoma. The RiverHawks finished the 2013 campaign 2-9 overall and 2-8 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play.

In six seasons at the helm, Evans' record at his alma mater was 22-44. Since taking NSU to the Mineral Water Bowl in 2011, Evans' record in two seasons of MIAA play was 6-18.

"We haven't won as many games as I'd like," Evans said.

Prior to taking the NSU head coaching job in 2008, Evans — a Warner native — coached linebackers at Louisiana Tech in 2008.
