No. 17 NSU holds off Harding

Northeastern State didn't eclipse the century mark for the first time this season. But the RiverHawks still scored enough to win.

Bryton Hobbs scored 27 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead No. 17 NSU to a 72-66 win over 25th-ranked Harding on Saturday night inside NSU's event center.

With the game tied at 54, NSU went on a 12-5 run to lead for good and improve to 3-0 on the year.

Harding (1-1) had five players in double figures with Hayden Johnson leading the way with 13. Tony Cochran, Weston Jameson and Jacob Gibson each poured in 11 points. Andraz Kavas added 10 for the Bisons.

For Northeastern State, Landon DeMasters and Dalen Qualls each collected 12 points.

The RiverHawks finished the game 23 of 51 (45.1 percent from the field) to make up for a 58.3 percent (21 of 36) effort at the free-throw line.

Shooting only 34.5 percent (20 of 58) from the field, Harding managed to hang around by burying eight treys and going 18 of 20 at the foul line.

Leading 34-26 at halftime, NSU claimed its largest of the game, 44-34, with 14:50 left in the second half.

NSU's next game will be Wednesday at home against Southwestern College.
