NSU women to host UAFS

Local and state briefs

The Northeastern State women’s basketball team will host Arkansas-Fort Smith tonight at the NSU’s event center. The game is stated to begin at 6 p.m.

The RiverHawks are 1-4 and coming off a 62-51 victory over Tarleton State last week. In that game, Fontana Tate led NSU with 16 points on six-of-10 shooting from the field.

Arkansas-Fort Smith is also a one-win team, but the Lady Lions have lost five games. UAFS recently snapped a five-game losing skid with a 59-58 victory over McMurry.

NSU and UAFS clashed in Fort Smith, Ark., last year with the RiverHawks winning 67-47. Four RiverHawks scored in double figures, including a game-high 16 points from Taylor Lewis. Tate finished with 10 points in that contest.

Kickoff scheduled for Oklahoma-Oklahoma State game

STILLWATER — An 11 a.m. kickoff time has been set for the Dec. 7 Oklahoma-Oklahoma State football game in Stillwater.

The No. 20 Sooners and the No. 7 Cowboys are both off this week before meeting in the game scheduled for national broadcast by ABC from Boone Pickens Stadium.

OSU is 10-1 overall and 7-1 in the Big 12 and a win would earn them the conference’s spot in the Fiesta Bowl. OU is 9-2 on the season and 6-2 in the conference and a win by the Sooners would give them a shot at tying for the conference title.

Tulsa’s Jackson named C-USA Player of the Week

TULSA — University of Tulsa linebacker Shawn Jackson has been named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week.

Jackson’s selection was announced Monday following TU’s 24-14 win on Saturday over Louisiana Tech.

Jackson had 10 tackles in the win, including three quarterback sacks, and an interception.

Texas-San Antonio quarterback Eric Soza and East Carolina quarterback Shane Carden are C-USA co-Offensive Players of the Week and the Special Teams Player of the Week is Tulane placekicker Cairo Santos.
