NSU tennis routs Lions

The No. 37-ranked Northeastern State women’s tennis team took down Lindenwood University 8-1 Saturday morning at the NSU Tennis Complex.

The RiverHawks (17-2, 8-1 MIAA) swept the doubles points for the 12th time this season and took all but one singles match from the Lions (4-9, 2-5 MIAA).

The first decision of the day came on the second doubles court where the junior tandem of Jeanne Mallem and Houda Bellamine defeated Daria Ivanova and Sarah Sharpe, 8-2.

Junior Martina Bruzikova, the reigning MIAA Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week, teamed with sophomore Barbora Jirickova to post an 8-0 victory over Alexandra Medvedeva and Shreeja Karki on the third court.

Senior Ivana Belejova and freshman Kristina Savchenkov, the nation’s No. 19-ranked doubles team, defeated Adela Slovakova and Gloria Marras 8-5 on the top court to wrap up the first three points of the match.

Savchenkov made quick work of Marras in singles action, as the RiverHawk defeated the Lion 6-2, 6-1, from the second position. Mallem clinched the team portion of competition with a 6-2, 6-0, triumph over Medvedeva at the fourth flight.

Jirickova posted a 6-0, 6-2, victory over Karki on the sixth court, and Bellamine beat Sharpe 6-2, 6-1, from the fifth position.

Bruzikova trumped Ivanova 6-0, 6-0, on the third court, and Lindenwood’s lone point of the match came at the top of the order, when Slovakova closed proceedings with a 6-1, 6-4, victory over Belejova.

NSU will face Truman State at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
