NSU outfielder lands Gold Glove accolade

WAYNE, Neb. — Cody Robinson was named a 2014 Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches Association All-Central Region Gold Glove winner, the ABCA announced Saturday.

The senior outfielder from Sugar Land, Texas, was the only student-athlete from the MIAA to earn a spot on the nine-man team after not committing an error in the field all season. He finished with 128 putouts and four assists in center field.

Robinson joins former RiverHawk Chad Davidson and fellow senior Kyle Singleton as recent Gold Glove recipients from NSU. Both earned the laurel last season.

Those selected to the Central Region Gold Glove Team are recognized as the top defensive players in the region for their selected positions. The nine recipients from the Central Region will now be eligible for selection to the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove national team, which will be announced at the conclusion of the 2014 NCAA Division II Baseball Championship Tournament.

Robinson recently collected consensus first team all-region accolades, as he was named to the Central Region first teams by the NCBWA, Daktronics and Rawlings/ABCA.

He is currently third in the nation in both home runs (18) and home runs per game (0.36). He ranks fourth in the NCAA in slugging percentage (.771), ninth in total bases (135), and 15th in doubles (19). He also has 47 runs batted in.

Robinson had a banner year in 2014, raising his batting average 46 points from a year ago to .354 (.308 last season). He also improved his on-base percentage from .396 to .440 and raised his slugging percentage from .674 to .771. He added nine more hits (62 this season) and two more home runs to his total from last year.

He was also named to the All-MIAA First Team for the second year in a row. He became the fourth RiverHawk/Redman since 1997 to be named to an all-conference first team twice, joining Chris Stilwell (1999-00), Josh King (1999, 2001) and Nick Zodrow (2002-03).
