Men

Ahead of the pack

Northwest Missouri State:
The Bearcats locked up a one-game lead in the standings with a one-point win against Missouri Southern last Wednesday. The win was capped by DeShaun Cooper’s go-ahead shot with three seconds left. Northwest Missouri State has now won six games in a row, dating back to Jan. 4’s loss to Central Oklahoma.

Up and coming

Emporia State:
Left for dead when the calendar flipped to 2014, the Hornets have won five straight games and are driving hard for a first-round bye in the conference championship in March. Four of Emporia State’s five straight wins have come at home, and this week the Hornets begin a three-game road swing.

On the skids

Northeastern State:
The RiverHawks looked to be league power early in the season, but such is not the case currently. NSU has lost three consecutive games and five of its last six games.

Notes

- Cooper claims league honor:
Northwest Missouri State’s Cooper was named the league’s Athlete of the Week for men’s basketball. Cooper racked up 32 points in the Bearcats’ win against Missouri Southern.
