Aguilar nabs MIAA Hitter of Week honors

— Alyssa Aguilar was named the MIAA/AstroTurf Softball Hitter of the Week, the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced Tuesday morning.

The junior shortstop helped lead Northeastern State to a 4-0 record this past weekend. She registered a team-leading .462 batting average (6-for-13) with two doubles, a grand slam, eight runs batted in, and three runs scored.

She posted an .846 slugging percentage and only struck out once. She also extended her hitting streak to 10 games, and she has recorded an RBI and scored a run in three-straight games.

The RiverHawks (6-6) will next be in action at 3 p.m. March 4 during a road doubleheader at Arkansas Tech.

NSU men's golf comes in 12th at Coyote Classic

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — The Northeastern State men’s golf team fell three spots in Tuesday’s final round to finish 12th at the Coyote Classic, which was held at the par-70, 6,624-yard Arrowhead Country Club.

The RiverHawks finished at 56-over-par 896 (286-302-308) after shooting a final round score of 308. They were tied for third after the first 18 holes, but slipped nine spots to No. 12 by the end of the tournament.

No. 7 Chico State won the event at 15-over 855 (282-281-292). No. 4 CSU-Monterey Bay placed second at 22-over 862 (280-286-296) and Dixie State finished third at 36-over 876 (286-294-296).

Freshman Marc Johnson led NSU with a T-14 effort. He finished at 7-over 217 (69-73-75). Fellow freshman Tate Williamson carded a 75 Tuesday to tie for 24th at 11-over 221 (68-78-75). Junior Josh Strimple tied for 43rd at 17-over 227 (72-72-83), junior Jonas Granel placed T-76 at 25-over 235 (77-79-79) and freshman Tyler Green finished at T-79 with a 27-over 237 (77-81-79).

Chico State’s Lee Gearhart took home individual honors with a 1-under 209 (71-70-68). Bobby Holden of Redlands University finished second at even-par 210 (72-67-71).

Northeastern State will next be in action March 10-11 at the Dave Falconer Memorial, which will be held in Russellville, Ark., at Chamberlyne CC.
