NSU women golfers tied for first in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Northeastern State women’s golf team sits in a tie for first after Sunday’s opening round of the Triton Spring Invitational at the par-70, 5,800-yard Norwood Country Club.

The RiverHawks fired a first-round total of 39-over-par 319, and they sit in a tie with Grand Valley State University. Both teams are receiving votes in the latest WGCA Coaches’ Poll.

Host Missouri-St. Louis is third at 324, Drury sits in fourth at 328 and Southern Indiana is fifth at 330.

Senior Whitney McAteer and freshman McCandren Lewis are tied for fourth in the individual standings after shooting 8-over 78. Senior Kelsey Kirkpatrick is a stroke behind at 79 in a tie for sixth.

Sophomore Alex Koch is tied for 22nd after opening with an 84, and freshman Kayla Schroeder is tied for 55th at 91.

GVSU’s Kelly Hartigan is first at 4-over 74, and UMSL’s Shweta Galande and SIU’s Griffin Glasscock are tied for second at 76.

Monday’s final round will begin at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
