NSU men’s golf gets 4th
JOPLIN, Mo. — The Northeastern State men’s golf team finished fourth at the MSSU Invitational Tuesday at the par-72, 6,649-yard Twin Hills Country Club.
The RiverHawks shot a final-round total of 310 to finish the tournament at 33-over-par 609. No. 18 Central Oklahoma won the event by 11 strokes after firing a two-round total of 14-over 590.
Central Missouri and Nebraska Kearney both got past NSU in the final round. The Mules shot a 300 to finish at 601, while the Lopers shot 302 to finish one stroke ahead of the RiverHawks at 608. Washburn placed fifth at 614.
NSU seniors, Kyle Fouts (71-78) and Jacob Bartel (73-76), both tied for seventh at 5-over 149.
UCO’s Trevor Stafford won individual honors after firing a six-under 66 in the final round. He was the only player under par for the tournament at 4-under, 140. Washburn’s Trey Seigel placed second at even-par 144.
Next up for Northeastern State will be the 2013 MIAA Men’s Golf Championship April 22-23 in Smithville, Mo.
