Area events called off by winter weather

From Staff reports

— Most of the basketball will go on. Most of the wrestling will not.

While recent winter weather, which has created slick and hazardous driving conditions, has forced a couple of wrestling postponements, basketball has chosen to brave the elements on Tuesday.

Both Tahlequah basketball teams will play as scheduled tonight at Bishop Kelley. But there will be no junior varsity games, so varsity competition will begin at 5 with the girls and the boys will follow at 6:30.

In Muskogee, the Sequoyah and Hulbert basketball teams will take part in the 2014 Bedouin Shrine Classic. The Sequoyah boys will take on McAlester at 6 p.m. at the Muskogee Civic Center, which is also where the Hulbert girls will take on Spiro at 7:30. Also at 7:30, the Sequoyah girls will tip off against Cookson Hills at Muskogee High School. Then, to cap off the night, the Hulbert boys will play against Summit Christian at Muskogee High School at 9.

The only basketball teams in the county not playing are at Keys. Instead, both clubs will begin play at the Locust Grove tournament on Wednesday, when the boys play Chouteau at 8:45 p.m. after the girls take on Salina at 7:20.

At the college level, Northeastern State's games at Northwest Missouri State were postponed on Monday night. No makeup date has been announced.

As for area wrestling teams, only Tahlequah will be in action on Tuesday. The Tigers will host Bishop Kelley.

The wrestling quad at Sequoyah, however, has been postponed. The four-team event was also slated to include Keys, Inola and Sperry in District 3A-7 competition. A makeup date was unavailable as of Monday afternoon.
