BROKEN ARROW — The Northeastern State men’s golf team finished second after Tuesday’s final round at the 2013 NSU Classic, which was held at the par-72, 6,943-yard Emerald Falls Golf Club.
The RiverHawks fired a 302 on the final day of the tournament to finish at 40-over 904. Central Missouri carded the lowest round of the tournament in the final round at 295 to win the event by seven strokes at 33-over 897. This marks the second time the Mules claimed the championship (2009).
Central Oklahoma placed third at 913 after shooting 305 in the final round. Southeastern Oklahoma State also shot 305 to finish fourth at 916. Arkansas Tech shot 315 to slip to fifth at 918.
Michael Hearne of Southern Nazarene took home the singles title after finishing at 2-over 218. He shot a 1-under 71 in the final round.
NSU freshman Tate Williamson finished on the all-tournament team after tying for fifth. He shot 75 in the final round to finish at 7-over 223. Fellow freshman Marc Johnson carded a 76 Tuesday to finish one stroke behind Williamson in a tie for eighth.
Northeastern State will return to action Oct. 7-8 in Warrensburg, Mo., at the UCM Heart of America Invitational.
NSU women finish in 2nd
GOODYEAR, Ariz. — The No. 22-ranked Northeastern State women’s golf team tied for second-place in the Western New Mexico Fall Intercollegiate Tournament Tuesday.
The RiverHawks shot a 614 and tied for second-place in the final round of the tournament with Oklahoma Christian. Chico State claimed first-place after shooting one stroke ahead of team NSU, scoring a 613.
Northeastern State freshman Gabbi Shelton shot a 2-over par final round score of 74 to end with a total 150 and tie for fourth-place, while freshmen Baylee Price and Sofia Castiello each carded a 3-over par final round score of 76 to end the day with a 151 and tie for seventh-place.
Also scoring for NSU was sophomore Kayla Schroeder, who shot an 85 in the final round and tied for 58th with a 167. Junior Arizona Chin carded an 80 and tied for 66th to end the day with a 169.
The RiverHawks will be back in action October 7 and 8 to see play in the RCB Classic, hosted by Central Oklahoma at the Lincoln Park East Golf Club in Oklahoma City.
