Inside the MIAA

A weekly look inside the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.

They said it

- “We’ve had days to mourn, but now it’s time to celebrate him.” -- Missouri Southern head coach Daryl Daye on the death of assistant coach Derek Moore.

- “We belong here. We belong. We had a lot of adversity hit us today. ...We were doing it out there ,too, with freshmen and redshirt freshmen and a true sophomore quarterback. It’s just an overall great team win.” — Emporia State head coach Garin Higgins after the Hornets’ win over Missouri Western.

Game of the week

Northwest Missouri State at Emporia State

The Hornets cleared their first late-season hurdle in Missouri Western. But this week will likely be the biggest challenge of them all. This one will feature the MIAA’s best scoring offense (Emporia State at 47.2) vs. the league’s best scoring defense (the Bearcats at 14.9). If the Hornets can win this, the MIAA could be sending three teams to the national playoffs. Prediction: Northwest Missouri State 38, Emporia State 20.
