Bowie makes Seattle roster

Michael Bowie’s chance of picking up a roster spot looked bleak. The former Northeastern State standout suffered a shoulder injury in Seattle’s final preseason game, and a significant injury would have either landed Bowie on the injured reserve or had him placed on waivers.

Neither occurred and Bowie was one of 53 players to make the Seahawks’ final roster as the NFL gets set to open the 2013 regular season this week. Seattle will be at Carolina on Sunday.

Bowie — a seventh-round draft pick in April — was one of eight rookies to make Seattle’s final roster. Bowie and Alvin Bailey — a former Broken Arrow and University of Arkansas standout — were the only two offensive lineman to make the Seahawks’ active roster.

As for Bowie’s injury, it wasn’t as serious as initially thought.

“News was really good and he should be out there Wednesday,” Seattle head coach Pete Carroll told the media in Seattle about Bowie, who missed practice on Monday. “It could have been he had an old injury that showed up and was a little confusing at the start, but he has a chance to be ready to go for Wednesday’s practice which is great.”

Seattle worked Bowie all over the offensive line during the preseason. He is listed as the Seahawks’ third-string right tackle on the depth chart on the club’s website.

If Bowie sees any playing time during the 2013 season, he will be the first NSU alum to play in the NFL since Derrick Moore appeared in 13 games for the Carolina Panthers in 1995.
