NSU hammers Hillsdale with another 100-point performance


— The No. 17-ranked Northeastern State men’s basketball team hit triple digits for the second-straight game with a 101-61 victory over Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College Wednesday night inside the NSU Event Center.

The RiverHawks (2-0) have now scored 100 points in back-to-back games for the first time in the Larry Gipson era. This is also the first time since the 2000-01 campaign that NSU recorded multiple 100-point games in the same season.

Senior guard Bryton Hobbs led five in double figures with a game-high 28 points. He was 7-for-10 shooting and 11-for-12 from the free-throw line. He also dished out six assists.

Junior guard Michael Harmon came off the bench to score 18 points, while fellow junior guard Keon Littleton added 16 with four steals. Junior forward Landon DeMasters chipped in 12 points, and junior guard Dalen Qualls added 10. Junior forward Curtis Evans scored nine points and had a game-high 16 rebounds as NSU outrebounded HFWB 42-38.

Northeastern State shot 53 percent (31-for-58) from the field, 37 percent (11-for-30) from distance and 82 percent (28-for-34) at the line.

Phil Carey was the lone member of the Saints (2-4) in double figures, as he finished with 21 points.

Hillsdale FWB, the No. 5-ranked team in the National Collegiate Christian Athletic Association, shot 31 percent (21-for-67) from the field, 26 percent (7-for-27) from downtown and 63 percent (12-for-19) at the charity stripe.

Northeastern State will play host to No. 25 Harding University in the Event Center Grand Opening Nov. 16. The NSU women will tip against Drury at 6 p.m. and will be directly followed by the men. The entire event will begin at 5:45 p.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at center court.
