Fouts in 3rd at Pitt State golf tourney

— PITTSBURG, Kan. — The Northeastern State men’s golf team sits in a tie for sixth place following Monday’s first round of the Pittsburg State Invitational. The tournament is being held on the par-72, 6,720-yard Crestwood Country Club.

The RiverHawks posted a score of 303 to join Fort Hays State in sixth. Washburn leads the way after firing a 295, while Central Missouri and Central Oklahoma are tied for second following a team score of 299. Nebraska Kearney and Pittsburg State (302) are tied for fourth.

Leading the way for the RiverHawks is senior Kyle Fouts, who is tied for third following an even-par round of 72.

He is tied with Landon Morgan of Central Oklahoma and Mason Good of Central Missouri. They trail both Justice Valdivia (Pittsburg State) and Andrew Maier (Missouri Southern State) by one stroke entering tomorrow’s final round.

Sophomore Josh Stimple fired a 4-over round of 76 to sit in a tie for 25th, while junior Zach Tucker is tied for 33rd after carding a five-over 77.

Sophomore Brent Williams (78) and senior Jacob Bartel (79) are tied 41st and 56th, respectively, following the first round.

The teams will be back on the course Tuesday for the final round.
