NSU men's golf team selected for Super Regional

The Northeastern State men’s golf team earned a bid to the 2013 NCAA Division II Central/Midwest Super Regional Championship, the NCAA announced Friday afternoon in a press release on NCAA.com.

The RiverHawks will compete against the top 10 teams from the Central Region and the top 10 teams from the Midwest Region May 6-8 at The Club at Strawberry Creek in Kenosha, Wisc. The University of Wisconsin-Parkside will serve as the host institution.

NSU earned the No. 5 seed in the Central Region and will be making its 13th appearance in the NCAA Super Regional in the last 14 years.

“I’m happy that we are able to continue our rich tradition of reaching the NCAA’s,” NSU coach Scott Varner said. “I’ll never take these opportunities for granted. The majority of teams out there don’t earn this. We missed out in 2010, and I will never forget what that felt like.”

Other schools from the MIAA to receive bids were Central Oklahoma, Central Missouri, Washburn, and Nebraska-Kearney.

The top five schools from each regional automatically qualify for the NCAA Division II National Championship May 20-25 in Hersey, Pa.
