NSU tennis logs 6th straight win

The No. 35-ranked Northeastern State women’s tennis team defeated Northwest Missouri State 8-1 Friday afternoon at the NSU Tennis Complex.

The RiverHawks (11-4, 3-1 MIAA) swept doubles action and took five of six courts during singles play to win their sixth-straight match. The Bearcats (7-6, 4-1 MIAA) suffered their first loss in conference play. NSU returned home after playing its last seven matches on the road.

Junior Barbora Jirickova and sophomore Kristina Savchenkov started off with an 8-1 win over Marianne Hull and Mara Veasey on the second court. Senior Martina Bruzikova and freshman Valeriia Efimenko topped Lorena Rivas Jarolim and Alexis Bartek 8-2 at the top of the lineup, and senior Houda Bellamine and freshman Maria Lodge completed the sweep on the third court with an 8-5 win over Stephanie Mannix and Aniek Kolen.

Bruzikova started singles strong for the home team with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Mannix on the third court. Freshman Lucia Cerchlanova then clinched the team victory with a 6-0, 6-3 triumph over Veasey from the sixth position.

Jirickova added a sixth point with a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Hull from the fifth position, and Savchenkov defeated Rivas Jarolim 6-4, 6-0 at the top of the lineup.

Efimenko gave the RiverHawks an eighth point with a 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) victory over Bartek at No. 2 singles, and the Bearcats got on the board on the fourth court when Kolen defeated Bellamine 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.

The RiverHawks return to action at 10 a.m. on Sunday against Missouri Western State in Tahlequah
