Singleton hits for cycle as NSU baseball sweeps Lincoln

Second game: Northeastern State 13, Lincoln 1

Northeastern State used an eight-run third frame and a dominant effort on the mound to push ahead for good against the visitors in the second game.

Neither team scored in the first, and the home team manufactured three runs in the bottom of the second to take a 3-0 advantage. Lincoln scored its lone run of the game in the top of the third before the RiverHawks squashed any hopes of a comeback in the third. NSU added two more in the fourth and neither team scored again.

Walker finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. Junior Dante Broom was 2-for-3 with three RBI and a pair of runs, and senior David Weber drove home three.

Helsley (2-2) took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and gave up a leadoff single to Zach Moore. Helsley threw six innings and conceded just one unearned run and one hit. He struck out six and walked four. Junior Cayle Shambaugh saw his first action on the mound and recorded the final three outs with two strikeouts and a groundout.

Gatlin Wiggans (0-2) threw the first two frames for the Blue Tigers and allowed eight runs on five hits. He did not strike out a batter and walked three. Ian Fuemmeler gave up five runs on six hits in an inning of work. Joshua Register and Josh Kennedy closed out the game for the road team.
