Mildred “Millie” Knapp Lund Martin


TAHLEQUAH — Millie was born on June 3, 1925 to Thomas and Ethel Knapp in East Fishkill, N.Y., and died on Dec. 7, 2013 in Tahlequah, at the age of 88.

She was predeceased by her parents; husband Eugene Lund; son Robert Lund; husband John Martin; sister Evelyn Jennings; brother Jimmy Knapp; and two infant grandchildren, Jason Elwell and Heather Kindle.

Survivors include her three daughters:  Drinda (Art) McNichol of Texas, Judy (Vince) Parsick of Maryland, and Jan (Larry) Kindle of Oklahoma. Also surviving are two brothers: Franklin (Dorothy) Knapp, and Lewis Knapp both of New York; two sisters-in-law Billie (Herb) Wright of Georgia, and “Skip” Russell of New York; four grandchildren: Dawn (John) Mulder of Tennessee; Amy (Heath) Gibson of Maryland; Shannon (Aaron) Aagaard of South Carolina; and Ryan Elwell of Maryland. Additionally, Millie was great-grandmother to seven children, and has numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with her husband Gene, Millie raised her family in Agawam, Mass. She was a very active member of the First Baptist Church of Agawam, volunteering wherever she was needed. While living in Agawam, she organized the March of Dimes in Hampden County, at the height of the polio epidemic. She worked at the Agawam Post Office, and was also employed as secretary at the Springfield Academy of Medicine. In later years, Millie and John moved to Florida where she worked as a secretary at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University.

Millie’s passions were her family, sewing, and cooking. She was always happiest with her family around her.

Millie’s family would like to express gratitude to the entire staff of Cherokee County Nursing Center, Tahlequah, for the excellent and compassionate care she received while she was a resident there.

According to her wishes, Millie will be cremated, and a memorial service will be held at a later date in Agawam, with interment in the Agawam Center Cemetery.
