Terry Neil Townes


Terry Neil Townes was born May 25, 1938, an only child to Deloris Stephens and Thomas Townes in Amarillo, Texas. He passed this life on July 30, 2013, at St. John's Hopital in Tulsa.
He joined the U.S. Army at age 21and served for three years as an Airborn ranger. He worked with the Boy Scouts for 16 years, was a 32nd degree Mason. He accomplished a master’s degree in electrical engineering while working for Southwestern Bell Telephone. He retired in 1988 from the phone company with 28 years of service.
Terry was very proud of his Native American heritage, being half-blood Lakota Sioux. He was a talented artist and he loved working with his hands, carving wood to make Native American items, beading, drawing, painting and making Indian dance costumes. He donated his time to paint Disney characters on one of the ceilings at the Children’s Hopital in Dallas in 1985.
Terry had a passion for Harley Davidson motorcycles, and started riding at the age of 8 years old. His first motorcycle he bought was an Indian Chief. He rode all his life until he became ill in 2011.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Vicky L. Montgomery-Townes, four adult children, two boys and two girls, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
