Jessie Still


TAHLEQUAH — Funeral services for Jessie Still, 86, of Tahlequah, will be 10 a.m., Friday, Feb. 14, at Green Country Funeral Home. Officiating will be Revs. Thomas Still and D.J. McCarter.

Pallbearers are Aaron Houston, Chad McCarter, Will Chavez, Bobby Watkins, Brian Scott and Duane Solenberg. Honorary pallbearers are Keith Jessie, Jeff Jessie and Jeremy Scott. Jessie Still was born February 13, 1927, in Hulbert, Oklahoma to George Coffee and Lucy (Hawkins) Coffee. She passed away in Tulsa on February 10, 2014.

Jessie attended school at Dwight Mission and graduated from Sallisaw High School on May 23, 1947. In 1951, she married Sam L. Still and from this union came two children, Susan and Sammy. Jessie loved her family dearly.

Jessie worked as a presser at what is now Modern Cleaners. She also enjoyed reading, arts and crafts, and going dancing at the Senior Citizens Center. Jessie loved to read and write in her Cherokee language.

She was proud of her Cherokee heritage, and enjoyed passing her knowledge and wisdom on to her family. Jessie was preceded in death by her parents, George and Lucy Coffee; four brothers, Stute Coffee, J.B. Coffee, Alex Coffee, and Eli Coffee; and her sister, Elizabeth Sullivan.

She is survived by: two children, daughter, Susan Houston and husband Daniel, and son, Sammy Lee Still and wife Dama, all of Tahlequah; grandchildren, Jessica Hays and husband Tommy, Lindsay McCarter, Tonya Russell and husband Timothy, Tiffany Jordan and husband Thomas, and Leah Houston; six great-grandchildren, Rachel and Elaine Hays, Samantha, Emily, Sarah and Andrea Russell; and cherished companion, Michael May.
