TAHLEQUAH — Funeral services for JD Olinger, 79, of Tahlequah, are 2 p.m., Monday, March 3, at Green Country Funeral Home. Officiating will be Sam Keeling. Serving as pallbearers are Rodney Vick, Brandon Vick, Eric Daniels, Mitch Daniels, Zach Olinger, Jordan Olinger, Mason Martin and Daniel Martin.

Honorary pallbearers are Fred “Tucker” Glad, Jack Keeling, Bob Copeland, Dana Hazard, Ed Reese, Mark Vandiver, Richard Tidmore, and Ron Keeling. Interment will follow in the Downing Cemetery under the care of Green Country Funeral Home. Online condolences for the family may be left at tahlequahfuneral.com. The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, March 2.

JD Olinger was born in Foyil, on Sept. 17, 1934, to Herschel Olinger and Martha (Boling) Olinger. JD passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 25, in Odessa, Texas.

Growing up in the Baron Community of Adair County, JD attended school in Westville and graduated from Westville High School in 1952. In 1957, he enlisted in the United States Army and received an Honorable Discharge in 1959. He then returned to working at the highway department and retired after 43 years. In 1964, he married Theora Catcher in Tahlequah, and shared over 49 years of marriage.

JD enjoyed going fishing and spending time with his children and family. JD coached little league baseball and volunteered his time at Braggs High School, helping them to win three state titles. He was a long time Mason, having been a member of the Westville and Tahlequah Lodges.

JD is preceded in death by his parents, Martha and Herschel Olinger; and brother, Herschel Junior Olinger.

He is survived by his wife, Theora of the home; three children, Diane Vick and husband Aubrey of Welling, Sheila “Irene” Daniels and husband Roy Bob of Haskell, and Doug Olinger and wife Donna of Morris; eight grandchildren, Rodney Vick and wife Angie, Brandon Vick and wife Jody, Eric Daniels and wife Sondra, Mitch Daniels, Jordan Olinger, Zach Olinger, Daniel Martin, and Mason Martin; four great-grandchildren, Taylor Daniels, Lydia Daniels, Logan Daniels and Holly Vick; four siblings, Richard Olinger and wife Imadene, Imodean Watt, Tom Olinger and wife Judy, and Larry Olinger and wife Sue.
