Houston Barnes

TAHLEQUAH — Services for Houston Barnes will be 3 p.m., Friday, July 11, 2014, at Green Country Funeral Home, with Rev. Rob Pierce officiating. Honorary pallbearers are Brian Barnes, Benny Barnes, Tommy Barnes, Roy Dell Barnes, Sam Barnes, Bob Barnes and Perry Jordan. He will be buried in Croydon, Utah.

Houston Tommy Barnes was born in Braggs, on Dec. 1, 1939. He passed away on Monday, July 7, 2014, in Joplin, Missouri at the age of 74.

He was a graduate of Tahlequah High School.

During his younger years, Houston was an avid rodeo cowboy. He loved the sport, but went on to work in the oil and gas industry. He was well-respected throughout any endeavor. He spent the past 12 years on his ranch enjoying the quiet life, raising cattle and his small elk herd.

He influenced many people, especially the young, sharing his unique wisdom and sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by many.

He is preceded in death by his father, Tom Barnes; his mother, Margie Barnes; and a great-granddaughter Taylee Mae Trammel.

Houston is survived by his wife Jalaire; his children and their spouses, Brian Barnes and wife Barb of Grove, Benny Barnes and wife Tash of Flora Vista, New Mexico, Tommy Barnes and wife Jeanie, of Ignacio, Colorado, Janice and husband George Carr of Tahlequah, and Roy Dell and wife Elizabeth, of Claremore; grandchildren, Jamie and husband Mike Praslicka of Richwood, Texas, Lacy Jo Barnes, Chance Barnes and Bandy Barnes of Flora Vista, New Mexico, Callie Barnes of Muskogee, Drew Carr and wife Ashley and Errin Trammel and husband Brandon of Tahlequah; great-grandchildren, Tate and Tessa Trammel, Gunter and Hestin Carr, and Pistol Barnes; siblings, Wanda Carter, of Hutchinson, Kansas, Gonza Randle and husband Randy Randall of Rolla, Kansas, Daisy Hall, Debi Melton, Anita Lightcap, Bob Barnes, Sam Barnes and wife Diane, and Linda Boatright and husband Dr. Kirk Boatright, all of Tahlequah.
