LeRoy A. Wooley

TAHLEQUAH — LeRoy A. Wooley, 75, of Tahlequah, passed away after a brief illness, on Saturday, March 29, with his family and friends by his side.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Nancy Wooley of the home; and three sons, Danny Wooley of Deadwood, Texas, Gary Morris of Seattle, Wash., and Bruce Morris of Conifer, Colo.

LeRoy is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Rhoda Wooley; brother, R. Roahm; son, Steven Doyle; wife, Gerry Wooley; daughters, Jan and Cindy Wooley; and his two sisters, Geneva Cearly and Leila Brown.

LeRoy was born Aug. 30, 1937, in Oklahoma City, to Roy and Rhoda Wooley and resided there until his early teens. He moved with his family to Texas, where his father was employed in the oil field, and he attended school at Garden City, Texas. He later moved to Snyder, Texas, with his wife, Gerry. They moved back to Oklahoma City in the early 1960s and he worked for the Oklahoma City Police Department as a motorcycle police officer until 1968.

He moved to Tahlequah in 1968 and began working for Northeastern State University. In 1971, LeRoy married his friend, Nancy Morris. LeRoy held several positions while employed at NSU and retired in 1997 as facilities and service manager.

LeRoy was always bragging about the fact that he got to finish his “bucket list,” including getting a tattoo, parachuting, scuba diving, owning a house boat, and a Harley Davidson. In recent years, his main hobbies included RVing, being an active member of the Tahlequah Elks Lodge, and gardening. In particular he loved roses.

The family wishes to thank everyone for all their kindness, visits, food, phone calls and cards during LeRoy’s illness. At this time, no formal services are planned.
