Allen W. Brostrom

TAHLEQUAH — Allen W. Brostrom was born Nov. 25, 1929 in Lake City, Minn. to Harry and Hilda (Wohlwend) Brostrom. Allen passed away Thursday, Jan. 16 in Tahlequah at the age of 84.

He married Lois Bursell on Nov. 12, 1950 in Lake City. Allen entered the United States Air Force Nov. 16, 1948 and was honorably discharged Nov. 15, 1949. He was called back to active duty on Aug. 23, 1950 and was honorably discharged Aug. 16, 1951.

Allen worked at Jewell Nursery in Lake City from 1945 until 1968. He worked at Valley Craft Products, Inc. from 1968 to 1969. Allen moved his family to Tahlequah in 1969 where he began his career as operations manager of Mid-Western Nursery. Later, he became president of Mid-Western of Tennessee, Mid-Western of Alabama, and Bobby Unser Transportation until 1990. Allen became involved in the travel industry and was president of Travel by Air, Land and Sea located in Chattanooga, Tenn. where he retired in 2013.

Allen enjoyed laughing and spending time with his family. He enjoyed driving with the top down in his convertible across the United States finding interesting sights for his customers to visit. Allen was passionate in his beliefs that today’s youth needed insight into their government.  This led him to become actively involved with the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge. He was also deeply involved with Teen Challenge, an organization that helps troubled youth in Chattanooga.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Lois; brother, Dick Brostrom (Doreen); sisters, Pat Tackmann and Harriet Agrimson; children, Vickie Tracy (Jim), Kathy Brostrom, Lori Foster and Ray Foster; grandchildren, Chris Tracy (Stacey), Carrie Morrow (Paxton Hankins), Shannon Foster (Jeremy Smith), Christy Thayer (Greg), Ashley Foster; and 7 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service to celebrate Allen’s life will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, at the First United Methodist Church, Tahlequah, under the care of Green Country Funeral Home.  Online condolences may be left at tahlequahfuneral.com.
